Christmas time may be fast approaching but before you can deck the halls with boughs of holly, you need to store all your decorations. It’s important to keep them safe and sound in a storage unit so that they are ready for next year.
We’ve got some tips on how to store your decorations safely this holiday season!
1 – Get Rid of Old Items First.
Just like it is important to set goals at the beginning of each year, it is also important to declutter and get rid of old items.
2 – Make Sure They Fit Your Unit Properly.
Make sure that any boxes or bags are big enough for what you want to put inside them. You don’t want anything spilling out or getting damaged.
3 – Protect Your Wreaths.
Wreathes are often made out of fragile materials so it’s important to store them properly. Make sure they are not crushed or punctured by other storage items and for extra protection, you could purchase wreath storage boxes that will keep your holiday décor safe from harm.
4 – Use clear resealable bags to store decorations.
Using clear storage bags will allow you to see if anything is missing. You could also use multiple storage boxes for each type of decoration so you can separate them based on themes or colours.
5 – Protect lights using cardboard.
Lighting doesn’t have to be a storage headache. You can keep your fairy lights in order by laying them around a cardboard roll and securing the cord with tape so they don’t get tangled up while not in use.
6 – Mark your storage boxes.
It’s important to label your storage boxes so you know what goes in each one. You will be able to reuse the storage box for different decorations, saving storage space and money.
7 – Hang up any ornaments where possible.
If you have storage boxes with dividers and pegs inside the storage unit then this is a great way to hang up your Christmas ornaments and keep them safe at the same time. If not, simply use string to tie around larger decorations which should be attached securely so that they won’t break when trying to take them out of the packages.
8 – Wrap up your tree in shrink-wrap.
You can save storage space by wrapping up your Christmas tree in shrink-wrap. This will protect the needles and prolong its life, which means you won’t have to buy a new one next year!
9 – Use plastic cups for ornaments.
Another storage tip is to use plastic cups for your Christmas ornaments. This will help you stack the decorations in a way that’s easy for you to access and also protect them from getting scratched, banged into each other etc.
10 – Use storage containers for your decorations.
Storage containers are a great way to store and stack all of your Christmas decorations in one place. You can then either label or colour code them so that you know exactly where everything is when it’s time to decorate the tree etc!
